Who Are We?
Rasanga, Kathryn, and Ingrid all came to Victoria, B.C., at different times for different reasons. Still, we have all found warmth, connection, and growth within the beautiful tango community on Vancouver Island. We look forward to sharing the love we’ve felt in our neighborhood back with the attendees of this event.
All three of us organize tango events in our community, including Tangoverse Milonga, Victor/Victoria Switch Practica, and plenty of pop-up events. Members of our team also co-organized the Victoria/Vancouver Tango Meet-Up with Team Tandem in the summer of 2025. We have been organizing events outside tango for a long time, including international film, literary, music, and theatre festivals.
The Place
The event takes place on Lək̓ʷəŋən traditional territory, colonially known as Victoria, B.C., Canada. We think April is one of the most beautiful months to visit the Island. The weather is typically mild (highs of 14-10 °C) with cherry and plum blossoms decorating the streets.
Our venue, the DaVinci Centre, is unassuming from the outside, but inside features one of the most gorgeous hardwood dance floors in Victoria. It’s located in Esquimalt, about a 6-minute drive from downtown Victoria, and is served by regular public transit routes.

The Vision
Tango has had a home in Victoria for over 30 years thanks to the dedication and hard work of countless teachers and organizers.
We are setting out with deep admiration for the tango culture that Kelly, Grazyna, and Sam have infused into our community through Alive Tango Victoria and the Victoria Tango Marathon in previous years. While they take a well-deserved break from coordinating VTM this year, we hope to build on their hard work through this sister event.
Island Embrace is operated by the South Island Tango Society, a registered non-profit in BC dedicated to growing tango in our community through learning, connection, and artistry.
